The term “Special needs” covers any child who needs extra support or guidance, whether slight or requiring more extensive help from specialists. It includes children with learning, behavioural or emotional difficulties or those who show a special ability or talent in one or more areas of the school curriculum.
If children are having learning difficulties, additional support is given by the class teachers. Extra support from one of our learning support assistants may be given if appropriate, and we are able to call upon the support of external specialists if that is deemed necessary.
Where children are particularly able, teachers extend their work to match the child’s individual ability.
